We are able to achieve compact design with 3D Modeling and high efficiency Substation Power
Transformers with Hib grade silicon steel and special type design that is to be easy transportation and
installation. Pad-mounted transformers are widely used in applications ranging from commercial buildings to residential developments.
Varelen's three-phase pad-mounted liquid immersed transformers are compact power centers for utility, commercial or industrial applications, designed to withstand many types of environments. These transformers can be located outside or inside buildings to offer an energy efficient and safer solution. Fluid-filled transformers are available in a wide variety of configurations and can be paired with a large selection of accessories to meet the most basic and the most complex of specifications.

Advantages of Using Pad-Mounted Substations in Power Distribution
- With the transformer as the core component, it integrates high-voltage control and protection components such as high-voltage load switches and fuses into the transformer tank, creating a compact structure.
- The Pad Mount Transformer is even smaller in size, with a volume that is roughly equivalent to a conventional oil-immersed transformer of the same capacity, occupying only about one-third of the volume of a European-style box transformer of the same capacity.
- There are no heat dissipation issues, making the Pad Mount Transformer more capable of handling overload operations.
- Simplified configuration of high and low-voltage units results in lower manufacturing costs for Pad Mount Transformers.
- If the Pad Mount Transformer is equipped with our group's high-flash-point transformer, it becomes even more suitable for high-temperature regions in the summer.
- Using a sealed tank design, the Pad Mount Transformer eliminates the need for an oil conservator, reducing the routine maintenance workload for the transformer.
Pad Mount Transformer Features:
- The transformer is oil-immersed.
- The product is divided into three parts: the transformer body, the high-voltage chamber, and the low-voltage chamber.
- Using a full-range protective fuse, The high-voltage side employs a terminal-type oil-immersed load switch with a protective fuse.
- Structural configurations include "T" shape and "L" shape, as well as "H" shape.
- Load switches and fuses are installed inside the transformer oil tank, utilizing the transformer's insulating fluid as both insulating and cooling medium, resulting in a compact overall structure with excellent heat dissipation performance.
- High-voltage side incoming connections utilize high-voltage bushings to facilitate external cable connections.
- Conventional products have direct outgoing connections on the low-voltage side, with low-voltage solutions customized according to user requirements.
- The enclosure is constructed from welded steel plates and undergoes anti-corrosion treatment, ensuring an aesthetically pleasing appearance.
- The high-voltage chamber contains operable components such as load switches, transformer tap changers, and protective fuses. The enclosure is equipped with oil temperature gauges, oil level indicators, pressure relief valves, drain valves, oil sampling valves, outgoing terminals, and, as per user specifications, low-voltage systems, and automated monitoring systems.

Why Choose Varelen a Pad-Mounted Transformer Substation?
Compact Footprint
The transformer serves as the core component while high-voltage protection devices are integrated directly into the transformer tank.
Compared with conventional European compact substations, a pad-mounted substation occupies approximately one-third of the installation space while providing equivalent power capacity.
Enhanced Overload Capability
Load switches and fuse assemblies are immersed in transformer oil, allowing efficient heat dissipation and improved thermal performance.
This design enables better overload handling during peak demand periods.
Reduced Maintenance
The hermetically sealed tank eliminates the need for a conservator tank and minimizes oil exposure to the atmosphere.
Benefits include:
- Reduced maintenance costs
- Longer insulation life
- Improved reliability
- Lower risk of oil contamination
Optimized Lifecycle Cost
The simplified high-voltage and low-voltage configuration reduces manufacturing complexity and installation expenses.
This makes pad-mounted substations one of the most cost-effective medium-voltage distribution solutions available.
Suitable for Harsh Environments
When equipped with biodegradable ester fluid or high-flash-point insulating liquid, the substation becomes ideal for:
- High-temperature regions
- Desert environments
- Renewable energy projects
- Fire-sensitive locations
Customized transformers to meet every need
Offering a multitude of configurations and accessories to meet a wide range of application demands, Varelen's pad-mounted transformers are engineered-to-order and manufactured to exact customer specifications. Some models from stock are also available for emergency situations.
