What is oil immersed transformer

2023-03-02

Oil-immersed transformers is one of the commonly used distribution components, oil-immersed transformer is widely used in industrial and mining enterprises and civil building power supply and distribution system, is one of the very important power equipment.

When oil immersed power transformer in operation, the heat of coil and iron core firstly is transformed to the insulation oil and then to the cooling medium. And according to the capacity sizes, it can be divided into immersed natural cooling transformer and immersed forced air cooling transformer.

The constructure of oil immersed transformer

  1. body (Iron core, winding, insultation, tap changer)

  2. transformer tank

  3. cooling

  4. Protection device ( pressure relief valve, Buchholz Relay, oil level gauge,)

  5. high voltage bushing, low voltage bushing

oil immersed transforner Features:

The three-limb iron core is made of oblique cut Grain-oriented, seven-step silicon steel lamination insulated on both sides, guaranteeing low losses and low noise. These values are even improved by laser treatment. It is protected on the surface with a flash-proof varnish in order to prevent the sheet from corrosion and to reduce the noise.

The windings are made of copper or aluminum. Low-voltage windings are made of strip or flat wire, and the high voltage windings are manufactured from round or profile wire. (“diamond-dotted paper”) bonds the winding into a compact block while drying and increases the short-circuit capacity additionally.so the load loss of is lower and the electric performance is better.

The Tank Whether during transport or operation –the tank must be absolutely tight under mechanical stress. Preconditions to achieve this are constructional experience, the most modern calculation methods and high-quality welding work. Special attention is paid to corrosion protection. Pretreatment of the surface is processed by phosphating pickling, contributes to corrosion protection, just like multi-coating with preset drying times for each layer. On request, hot-dip galvanization provides for even better protection.

2. Categories of Oil-Immersed Transformers

Oil-immersed transformers are primarily classified into one-phase and three-phase types.

One-phase oil-immersed transformers come in various capacities, such as 50KVA, 25KVA, and 15KVA.

Open-type and closed-type three-phase oil-immersed transformers cater to specific applications.

3. Applications of Oil-Immersed Transformers

Oil-type transformers are versatile and can be ground-, pad-, or pole-mounted for outdoor use. They excel in diverse applications, including transmission and distribution networks, renewable energy generation, and small industries.

The substantial capacity of oil transformers contributes to significant energy savings, reduced power loss, conservation of energy sources, and cost-effectiveness for users. Additionally, the cooling effect of oil enhances the durability and electrical properties of the transformer equipment.

Distribution transformers by Varelen electric are designed for superior reliability, efficiency and environmental performance.
