Varelen provides engineered transformer and substation solutions for solar photovoltaic (PV) power plants. From step-up transformers to integrated substation configurations, our solutions are designed around project-specific voltage levels, power ratings, grid connection requirements and installation conditions.
Our energy-saving substation solution features a 270 V dual-winding input and split-input step-up configuration. The electrical design can be evaluated against your PV system architecture and project requirements.
Box-type substation, also known as prefabricated substation or prefabricated substation. It is a factory-prefabricated compact indoor and outdoor distribution equipment that integrates high-voltage switchgear, distribution transformers and low-voltage distribution devices in a certain wiring scheme. It organically combines functions such as transformer voltage reduction and low-voltage distribution, and is installed in a moisture-proof, rust-proof, dust-proof, rat-proof, fire-proof, theft-proof, heat-insulating, fully enclosed and movable steel structure box. It is particularly suitable for urban power grid construction and renovation, and is a brand-new type of substation that has emerged after the traditional brick-and-mortar substation. Box-type substations are suitable for mines, factories, oil and gas fields, and wind power stations
Intelligent control
Flexible configuration, small size, large capacity
box type substation models are divided into three categories:
1. High voltage switchgear model;
2. Dry-type transformer cabinet model;
3. Low voltage switchgear model.
Solar PV substation forms part of the electrical path between the photovoltaic generation system and the grid connection point.
Depending on the system architecture, the electrical path may include PV modules, inverters, low-voltage collection circuits, step-up transformers, switchgear, protection equipment and medium-voltage collection or grid connection infrastructure.
The transformer raises the voltage from the inverter-side level to the specified collection or grid-side level. The required voltage ratio, winding arrangement, impedance, protection scheme and equipment ratings must be coordinated with the overall electrical design.
Varelen manufactures transformers and substation equipment for renewable energy, power utilities and industrial applications.
Our project-oriented approach focuses on the electrical requirements of each installation rather than assuming that one standard configuration fits every PV plant.
Transformer ratings, voltage ratios, winding arrangements, impedance, cooling and enclosure requirements can be evaluated against the project specification.
Coordinating the transformer with the wider substation design helps the project team review electrical interfaces, installation requirements and equipment compatibility.
The required drawings, technical data sheets, routine test reports and other documentation should be agreed during the technical clarification stage. Testing should be specified according to the applicable product standards and project requirements.
Varelen can review project specifications and prepare a technical and commercial proposal based on the required ratings, delivery scope and destination.

An energy-saving solar PV substation is a transformer and electrical substation solution designed to support voltage conversion and power collection in a photovoltaic power plant. Its efficiency depends on transformer losses, equipment selection, operating conditions and the overall electrical system design.
A step-up transformer raises the voltage from the inverter-side or collection-system voltage to the required medium-voltage or grid connection level. The correct voltage ratio, impedance, winding configuration and protection arrangement depend on the project design.
Transformer losses can be managed by selecting an appropriate transformer design, reviewing guaranteed no-load and load losses, matching capacity to the operating load profile and evaluating thermal conditions. Actual energy savings should be calculated from verified loss data and expected operating hours.
Varelen can evaluate project-specific transformer and substation requirements, including capacity, voltage ratio, winding arrangement, impedance, cooling and installation conditions. Final configuration depends on the approved technical specification.
A quotation typically requires the plant capacity, transformer rating, inverter output voltage, grid connection voltage, quantity, loss requirements, impedance, installation environment, applicable standards, delivery destination and requested delivery schedule.
