Why dry-type transformers really reduce the risk of fire?

2022-12-22

Studies have shown that electrical equipment, including transformers, is the leading cause of fires in various industries. However, dry-type cast resin transformers have been shown to reduce this risk. Since they do not contain petroleum, they greatly reduce the risk of fire. They are also rated F1 in terms of fire protection standards. This means they will not cause a fire under short circuit conditions and are inherently fire resistant.

The insulation of the transformer consists of epoxy resin, an environmentally friendly material. They prevent the winding from catching fire. They are virtually maintenance-free, so you don't need to buy expensive fire suppression equipment. Also, cast resin transformers do not emit toxic fumes and are not even affected by electric arcs.

This reduction in fire risk allows dry-type transformers to be safely installed indoors, bringing many benefits to the user. One of them is that there is no need to bear the construction cost of the transformer outdoor facilities. The closer proximity to the load also requires less cabling to the transformer and allows for lower installation costs.
